How do I Stop a page from completling an action, (e.g. stop setTimeout from closing the window)?

ha mo, Colin Fraser, Kevin Smith,
This question has no reasonable answer. This is because javascript is
used to set up some automated routine or is reactionary to user input.
By its very nature, an automated routine must run to its logical
conclusion once activated, particularly a timeout routine. it can be
controlled by user input to a degree, in which case you would use
something like:
if (userinput == this)
setTimeout(1000)
else
//do some alternate or do nothing
The point is that this reacts to a user input, which to me, would
obscure or negate an automated routine.
The question becomes pointless. Sorry.
