How do I get DNS to answer my private IP's and forward all others to an external DNS server?

Aug 19th, 2001 20:31
Brian Coogan, Darryl Hoar,

Dnscache can be set up to do this rather easily. Details are in the
links and articles below, but for a brief overview: create files in
the /service/dnscache/root/servers directory for each local domain (eg:
168.192.in-addr.arpa, example.com, etc). Set FORWARDONLY to 1. Put
the IP addresses of the server to forward all other queries to in the @
file. Restart dnscache (svc -t /service/dnscache).
These steps are detailed in the answer for "How do I make my dnscache
act as a forwarding proxy server?" in faqts at the following URL:

Check out the articles mentioned at http://djbdns.faqts.com (for
detailed tutorial information on how to set up dnscache (eg: the
BSDToday article by Matt Simerson is great).
