Defining keyboard shortcuts in webapplications, is it possible?

I am not sure if this will be helpful for what you are trying to do or 
not but for IE you can create shortcuts keys by adding 
accesskey="argument" to the HTML tag in question. I believe the syntax 
is something like <input type="submit" accesskey="S">
