I want a file to be automatically attached to an e-mail message when an e-mail hyperlink is clicked.

Javascript does not support attachments, nor does the anchor-tag, but a 
little serverside scripting or any cgi's do.
To achive this you won't need any javascript, pure html and a skipting 
on your server will do the trick.
