I have a 'recent news' page that I would like to be able to update via the browser. Any ideas?

If you were able to use an SQL (or other) database to store the news 
items, you could use PHP to display these items regularly formatted 
(thus creating the 'news page' from the contents of the database) and 
also use an interface such as an HTML form to allow 
adding/editing/removing of items.
