You can send a reference to the opening window-object along as the
variant-argument, when You open the modalDialog:
var myString = "Hello Sarma";
window.showModalDialog("your_page.html", this, "...features goes
here...");
The second argument 'this' now referes to the opening window and can be
used in the modalDialog (your_page.html) like this:
var parWin = window.dialogArguments;
alert(parWin.myString);
