What language is fastest / easiest / best for my project?

Mar 28th, 2002 08:33
Michael Chermside,

This question always generates a very contentious discussion.
The answer, of course, is that NO MATTER WHAT project you are working
on, regargless of the requirements, the language which is FASTEST, *and*
which in which the lines-of-code required will be SHORTEST (and easiest
and quickest to write) is the (mythical) language "Algol 9000".
Unfortunately, this "perfect" language will only run on an infinitely
fast, mind-reading computer.
Until that perfect system is available, you will need to make some
tradeoffs. Speed vs elegance, complexity vs time-to-market, and many
other factors.
One good place to look for a comparison "The Great Lanugage Shootout",
found at [http://www.bagley.org/~doug/shootout/].
