I am pretty sure this question has been answered several times before, and essentially the answer is why reinvent the wheel? The other answer is why take a decision away from the user? Should it not be the user who makes the decision as to how he/she wants to treat a link? As a devout minimalist, I suggest this sort of code does nothing to improve the page or its user friendliness or relevance or accuracy of content or download times or design or anything else, which is why I do not use this type of code.. but please yourself.
