Why is window.opener.closed still returning False even though the original window is closed in IE6?

ha mo, Dave Clark, Colin Fraser, Craig Wrentmore,
Having duplicated this error, previously, I can tell you that there is
two possible causes, neither of which have yielded satisfactory
answers.
Firstly, and I suspect this is not the most likely cause, IE does not
handle released memory very well, and I understand this is actually a
problem in Windows itself... but I cannot be sure..
The other possible cause lies in the manner in which IE opens popups..
Initially, IE 3 and 4 did not recognise Javascript popups when they
were
first introduced. It also appears Microsoft did not bother to code the
popup window handling routines adequately then, and have not bothered
to
improve them, so the window handler itself is flawed... Please be aware
that I am shooting in the dark (wouldn't be the first time) but I
suspect I may be accurate here, even if I have no way of proving it..
Sorry, while the problem is easy to replicate, a workable solution is
not as easy, someone else may have a better solution..
Good luck..

I just tested this in IE6 and it works perfectly. If it was ever
truly broken, then at some point it has also been truly fixed.
Take care,
Dave Clark
