YES, there IS a *really good* package for doing date and time operations.
It is the mxDateTime package by Marc-Andre Lemburg. The documentation
(and free download) can be found at
http://www.egenix.com/files/python/mxDateTime.html
If you are doing any serious work with dates and times, this is the
package to use.
