The client browser may be equipped to open the application, such as a workbook. It is all dependant on the mime type you have associated. A trick here could be to associate data with a specific mime type: <% 'Set the mime type of the data. response.contenttype = "application/excel" %> That will ensure that the data, if no file extention is clearly specified, is sent to MS Excel.
