When uploading a text file the browser sets the type to 'application/x-macbinary', can this be converted/uploaded to ascii?

The text files you are uploading contain resource forks that the browser
is preserving by turning the file into a macbinnary stream.  You might
check the settings within your browser and see if you  can turn off this
feature for files of type TEXT with a creator of ???? or whatever your
editor is.
