How can I verify the existence of an email address?

Many email servers dont bounce emails immediately when you send mails
directly through SMTP e.g. QMail. Some do bounce. But the best method is
to embed an image in your mail. When that mail is opened and image data
is fetched, it should inform your script that this email address exists.
This is also not a reliable method as many email clients block these images.
