What is the mean of isset in this line: if(!isset($mainfile)) { include("mainfile.php"); }

Articles Way, Reza A Tabibazar, magdy ahmed,

isset is used to see if a variable is declared. A variable can be
dynamically created during a page exacution, ie an http post or get
operation. The line here says if the variable $mainfile is not declared
include the file mainfile.php
