How do I make FreeTrade work with CyberCash?
How do I charge shoppers credit cards?

Mar 30th, 2000 22:57
Leon Atkinson,

FreeTrade comes with code that validates the check digit on most credit
cards, but it doesn't charge them, of course. Some merchants prefer to
do that in a backend fulfillment system. It makes sense not to charge
the card until you package up the goods and send them on their way.
Other merchants prefer to authorize credit cards before make the
invoice live. If you wish to do that, you'll have to add code to
communicate with an authorization server, the most widely known being
CyberCash. Another popular solution is Signio.
One implementation Clear Ink did used CyberCash by shelling to a Perl
script supplied with CyberCash. It was low-risk, and we didn't worry
too much about the overhead of creating a shell because the number of
purchases a day was fairly low. A scalable solution probably involves
using the still sketchy CyberCash module for PHP.
