Is there a way to stop passwords from being POSTED in clear text?

You can convert the password to example md5 on the client side using 
javascript (example: http://pajhome.org.uk/crypt/md5/ ), then insert 
the md5 string into your database. Alternativly you can use an https 
connection when sending passwords.
