can i controle animated GIF from javascript(like play,stop)

I'm afraid it is not possible to really control that, but there might 
be a workaround.
It seems that animated gifs only do play, when they are shown, so by 
replacing the image by anoter one, it stops playing and as soon as it 
is placed back, it restarts playing.
