Length of Text Fields Uneven if one is a Password Field

This doesn't directly answer your question but does provide a 
workaroung for the described problem
You can, with a little experimentation, make input boxes the same size 
by writing your code like this:
input type="text" size="18" style="width:138px;">
NS4 will read and follow the size attribute and IE will follow the 
style property. By adjusting those numbers, you can get the same size 
box in both browsers.
