How to pass variables between two windows when a submit button can do two differant things.

with IE4 and above: Simply visit active sample page. Actually, it 
doesn't use "Submit" button, however, it could be apply to submit 
button using the same way as it is.
Once you open the page completely, then click "Change Agent ID" button,
you will meet "Test ID input" dialog in another window. Key in some 
text string in the text-box, then click "Apply" button, the text-string 
will transfer to the main window via global variable. The active entire 
source code can be browsed there as well.
