- Define the Problem to be Solved: what do you want to solve?
- Define the Goal State - End Point: when have you solved it?
- Identify the "Real" Constraints: why can I possibly not solve it?
- Develop optional Strategies: what if I can not solve it?
- Apply promising strategies: that might be a good solution?
- Monitor progress on solution path: how have I solved it so far?

There are seven stages of problem-solving which tend to show up in
almost all solutions. They are:
1. Clarify the conditions
2. Clarify the goal
3. Search for relevant prior knowledge and declarative, principle, or
   cognitive strategies.
4. Determine if conditions and goal state imply a known class of
   problems.
5. Decompose the problem into subproblems with subgoals.
6. Determine a sequence for solving subproblems
7. Consider possible solution paths
