How hard is it to learn Spanish?

Mar 31st, 2004 11:51
LM Silva,

Somewhat. It's radically different from English, for example.
Speakers of Portuguese and Italian learn it in a breeze. French-
speaking people have a little more trouble. English speakers must
accomodate to new verb tenses, declension of adjectives, and some
different word order. But at the same time they'll discover new words,
new ideas and a whole new, interesting culture. Some words to get you
started:
- Salsa (sauce, but also a difficult style of music and dance, very
rewarding in the end and a powerful romance tool).
- Paella (Spanish marine dish).
- Tacos (great mexican food).
- Arepa (delicious Venezuelan food, made of corn).
- Rumba (party, something very well done in Latinamerica).
