First, you should decide what kind of domain you want. Also, read the
following faqt on how much domains cost:
  http://www.faqts.com/knowledge_base/view.phtml/aid/3416/fid/66
If you want a .com .net or .org domain a few of the most popular sites
are:
  http://www.godaddy.com/
  http://www.gandi.net/
One company you should NOT purchase from is Network Solutions, they are
evil and overly expensive.
If you want a country-specific domain, then there are as many place to
buy them from as they are country TLDs. Here's a resource that links
to country specific registrars:
  http://www.behindtheurl.com/TLD/
It would of course be best to either get a Generic TLD domain
(com/net/org), or one that is from your own country.
Your Internet Service Provide most likely sells domains as well, and/or
your Web host. Checking with them is also an option and might be less
trouble/work for you albeit a little more expensive.
