VMWare: Operating system: Microsoft: Windows: XP: USB: Not found
---
---
VMWare v4.5.1
---
The goal was to run my USB programs also on Microsoft Windows XP on
VMWare.
---
But after installing Microsoft Windows XP (from the original Microsoft
CD) the USB devices were not seen when plugging them in when giving
the VMWare window focus.
---
What finally worked was
1. -installing Microsoft Windows service pack 1 (or higher)
in that VMWare operating system
(you could possibly download it from the Internet,
or maybe from a CD on which you have this installed)
2. -remove and reinstalling the USB device in that VMWare
operating system
1. -switch off that operating system in VMWare
2. -Select from VMWare menu option 'VM'
1. -Select from list 'Settings'
2. -Select from list 'Remove' USB device
3. --Select from list 'Add' USB device
3. -restart that operating system in VMWare
3. -unplugging all my USB devices on my computer
4. This opened on the main machine on its Microsoft Windows taskbar
a dialog box
'new hardware found:'
'VMWare USB device'
and installed this as usual when installing
new hardware found.
1. If you now look in the control panel
->System'->Device manager of your main
computer (thus not in VMWare), you will
see that an entry
'VMWare USB device'
has been added
5. -When giving after this VMWare window focus
and plugging in the USB device (e.g. a memory
stick) it worked correctly.
6. -This steps of installing the 'VMWare USB device'
repeats itself for each new USB device you insert
7. -The operating system that has focus will see
that USB device after inserting it.
Other operating systems will not see it anymore.
