Computer: Search: Search engine: How to search your Lotus Notes e-mail
using Google Desktop Search?
---
Steps: Overview:
 1. -Download Google Desktop Search Enterprise (free download)
      http://desktop.google.com/enterprise
 2. -The plug-in will install automatically if you have IBM Lotus Notes
     installed.
 3. If the "Google Desktop Search for Notes" option in the Notes
"Actions" menu is not available after install, you need to make
sure the notes.ini configuration file is in your Notes directory.
This is necessary for install to proceed successfully. The Notes
directory is where the notes.exe executable is located. On
Windows, this is often either the "C:\notes" or "C:\Program
Files\lotus\notes" directory. Once moved and reinstalled, you may
move the notes.ini file to its previous location if you wish.
    1. -Your personal Lotus Notes initialization file
         notes.ini
        is e.g. located in
         C:\Documents and Settings\<your user name>\Local
Settings\Application Data\Lotus\Notes\Data
    2. -Make sure this Lotus Notes
         notes.ini
file is (before installation) located in the Lotus Notes folder
(e.g. copy it temporarily into this folder)
        this is e.g. in
         c:\Notes
        or
         c:\Program Files\Lotus\Notes
    3. -Install Google Desktop Search Enterprise
    4. -If applicable, move your notes.ini file back to
        its original folder
===
 4. After successful installed, you will see after restarting Lotus
Notes
'IBM Lotus Notes plug-in for Google Desktop Search has been
installed.
To complete installation and enable indexing of Lotus Notes
documents,
select "Google Desktop Search for Notes" from the Lotus Notes
Actions menu'
 5. When going in Lotus Notes to the 'Actions' menu and selecting the
Google
    search options
    1. You are requested to confirm
    2. Enable indexing by indicating where your Lotus Notes mail file
is located
       1. If you can not open this file (e.g. because of restrictions),
use e.g. your locally archived .nsf e-mail database instead.
           e.g.
C:\Documents and Settings\<your user name>\Local Settings\Application
Data\Lotus\Notes\Data\archive\<some databasename>.nsf
 6. -Click button 'Apply'
     1. You will see that the indexing starts
 7. -Click button 'OK'
 8. -You can now in your Google Desktop search for your Lotus Notes e-
mail
