Write a Javascript function like this...
function submitFrm(frm)
{
      if (check for some conditions if true)
      {
            return true ;
      }
      else
      {
            return false ;
      }
}
In your form code...
<form name='someFrm' onSubmit='return submitFrm(this)'>
...
...
</form>
