How do I install the FrontPage Extensions?

Aug 26th, 2005 06:41
Karl Fry,

You can install the FrontPage Extensions directly within your OPS
control panel at http://ops.powweb.com. Just log in, click
on "Packages" at the top, "HTTP" right beneath that, and then in the
lower right-hand corner click on the blue "FrontPage" link. If
nothing happens, disable any pop-up blockers and click the link again.
A new window will appear that asks you for an Administrator and a
Password. On this screen you will choose a new username and password
that the Extensions will be installed with. You will need to remember
this or write it down, as you will need to enter this information
every time you publish with FrontPage. Note that this username and
password must not be anything that you have used thus far at PowWeb,
and the password itself must contain at least 6 characters and be
composed of letters and at least one number.
Finally, click the "Install" button. This places the FrontPage
Extensions files in your disk space at PowWeb, readying it for
interaction with the FrontPage software on your computer.
Once the Extensions are installed (or if they were already installed
when you clicked the "FrontPage" link originally) you will see two
links: Uninstall and Full Uninstall. At this point you can simply
close the window and you're ready to publish.
If you have future problems with the Extensions or forget your
password, you will need to come back to this page and click
on "Uninstall" to remove the Extensions, and repeat the process above
to reinstall them. If this doesn't help your problem, try the same
process with "Full Uninstall". Note that you may need to republish
your files with FrontPage after uninstalling/reinstalling Extensions
to reintegrate your files with the Extensions file system.
As with any method of publishing, we always recommend that you edit
the website files on your computer and keep them as a backup copy. If
you edit the files on the server and do not keep a backup copy, it is
possible that you may lose your data.
