How do I upload via FTP?

Aug 26th, 2005 08:05
Karl Fry,

To connect to FTP, you need to enter at least 3 pieces of information
in your FTP client:
a) Server / Host / Hostname {may be called various different things}
b) Username / Account
c) Password
The server/hostname is the address of the server you are connecting
to. This can be a normal address, or a numerical IP address.
The username and password is issued to you by your host to
authenticate your authorization to log in to that server. Some
servers allow anonymous FTP for file downloads, but PowWeb's servers
currently do not - so you must authenticate a username/password when
logging in.
To find your FTP hostname, username, and password within PowWeb, first
log into the OPS control panel at: http://ops.powweb.com -- Next,
click on "Packages" at the very top, then the "FTP" tab on the row
beneath. Your hostname is listed in the upper left-hand quadrant of
this page, and your username is listed on the table below it. You can
reset your password by clicking on the blue "Password" link to the far
right of your username. You can also create a new FTP account toward
the bottom of the page, as long as you have not already reached the
maximum of 10 FTP users.
This is all the basic information that you should need to connect via
most FTP clients. If you want to test if your username and password
are correct for PowWeb, you can always try logging into PowWeb's
WebFTP interface at: http://webftp.powweb.com

Some FTP clients will have additional settings:
Port: Use the default FTP port of 21
Secure FTP: Should always be disabled
Passive FTP: If you're having trouble connecting, try toggling this on
or off and connecting again. I've worked with customers who could
only connect via Passive Mode, while others could only connect with it
disabled.
