I'm an asp developer now switching to php .. I'm looking for <%=root%> for php

By default PHP will support <?php ?> tags, most of the cases <? ?> also
supported, for other kind of tags you need to enable them in the php.ini
file.
You can find the following lines in line 78 & 79 of php.ini.
; Allow ASP-style <% %> tags.
asp_tags = Off
