Geography: Map: Google: Latitude: Longitude: How to change to the
exact location using the URL?
Method: Search for the address + zip code of the location in Google
maps, and click link 'Link to this page'
===
Steps: Overview:
1. -Goto URL
http://maps.google.com
2. -Type the address you are searching for (possibly using double
quotes to indicate fixed parts)
1. -E.g.
25 "West street" 10006 "New York"
3. -When finished, click the link (or right click, and choose 'Copy
shortcut')
'Link to this page'
4. -That will copy the direct URL to this location to the Windows
clipboard.
5. -Pasting this URL shows e.g. latitude and longitude of that
location
http://www.google.com/maps?
q=25+West+St,+New+York,+New+York+10006,+USA&ie=UTF8&om=1&z=16&ll=40.707
954,-74.015579&spn=0.008084,0.021179&iwloc=addr
===
Method: Manually change the URL
Steps: Overview:
1. -Given the latitude and longitude of the location
latitude = 43.69
longitude = 7.26
2. -That corresponds to the URL
http://maps.google.com/maps?
q=43.69,7.26&ll=43.69,7.26&spn=0.350,0.350&t=h&hl=en
3. -Choose the zoom maximally, so that you see it visually the best
(as nearest)
1. -Change the 'spn' value in the URL
1. -E.g.
spn=0.001
2. -That gives the URL
http://maps.google.com/maps?
q=43.69,7.26&ll=43.69,7.26&spn=0.001,0.001&t=h&hl=en
4. -Now possibly add digits (e.g. 3 zeros) to the given
latitude/longitude location to be able to move very precisely
(e.g. meters/feet instead of kilometers/miles)
1. -E.g.
latitude = 43.69000
longitude = 7.26000
2. -That corresponds to the URL
http://maps.google.com/maps?
q=43.69000,7.26000&ll=43.69000,7.26000&spn=0.001,0.001&t=h&hl=en
5. -Repeat the following steps, until you see visually that you are
on the correct location
1. -Now stepwise adjust the latitude/longitude numbers directly
in the URL
until you find the exact location of the object
(you should know already the exact location, e.g. because
you have e.g. visited it).
You will have to change it in 2 locations in your URL
(because the data occur twice)
1. -E.g. given
latitude = 43.69000
longitude = 7.26000
1. -To go up, change the latitude: increase it
e.g. increase with 500
43.69500
2. -To go down, change the latitude: decrease it
e.g. decrease with 500
43.68500
3. -To go to the left, change the longitude: increase it
e.g. increase with 500
7.26500
4. -To go to the right, change the longitude: decrease it
e.g. decrease with 500
7.25500
2. -Click 'go' in your Microsoft Internet Explorer to go to
this
new location
1. -E.g. goto the right
http://maps.google.com/maps?
q=43.69500,7.26000&ll=43.69500,7.26000&spn=0.001,0.001&t=h&hl=en
