Get Charged Up For Boarding

Paper boarding passes will soon be a thing of the past. Scottish
design firm Real Time Engineering has helped develop the RT-
MobiTicket, a mobile-phone-based boarding pass. How does it work? When
you check in online, your boarding pass will be sent to your phone as
a text message. The message is a barcode, which ordinary airport
scanners can read. The RT-MobiTicket launches in March 2007 and all
you need for it to work is a mobile phone – a phone that is charged
up, that is. The alternative, for those who forget to charge their
phones or for the generally phone-averse, is to queue up for the old-
style paper passes. UK-based tour operator AwimAway (020 7430 1766,
www.awimaway.com) is already gearing up to become one of the first
operators to offer tickets to their clients with this latest
technology.
