Set around a beautiful 18th-century sandstone mansion in rural 
Wexford – about a 90 minute drive from Dublin is a newly opened eco-
spa named Monart. It has a computerised Building Energy Management 
System, which controls heat and light in every single area of the 
hotel to limit energy wastage. It also has a bio-mass system that 
heats the hotel using only locally produced timber, which cuts down on 
fuel miles. 
Unlike some spas that feel the need to enforce a healthy diet of 
lentils and bean curd, Morart uses the traditional meaning of the word 
pampering as a point of reference: warm fluffy scones with cream, 
thick pieces of chocolate cake and a glass of chilled wine after a 
spell in the outdoor sauna. 
All food is sourced locally hence the reason everything is so fresh. 
When you’re done, the waste is recycled as far as possible. For 
instance the waste cooking oil is used to make bio diesel.
The spa itself is linked to the hotel via a glass tunnel that blends 
the tranquillity of the surrounding garden and quiet pools seamlessly 
with the interior. 
In the upper chamber, its quite literally like being inside the core 
of a tree. The inner core is a dark relaxation room, while the light 
relaxation room has individual pods carved into the wall. The 
treatments, which use 100 per cent natural Pevonia products, are 
superb in that the staffs are experienced and capable, with a heavy 
emphasis on tailoring to your needs.
