Online Blackjack Tournaments - Fair Game
We take fair game play in earnest and would like to familiarize you with
two critical elements in the development of any virtual card game: the
use of unpredictable random numbers and an unpredictable
ordering/shuffling of the deck.
Random Numbers
We use an entropy (1) based random number generator (RNG) available from
the Linux operating system.
The random number generator gathers noise from the system, device
drivers and other sources such as network activity and CPU utilization,
into an entropy pool. From this entropy pool random numbers are created.
Linux provides the /dev/random device. Reading this device from code
provides random numbers.(2)
Our application was developed to take seeds from that entropy pool
periodically. These seeds serve as the starting number for an elementary
cellular automaton (3). Get21’s cellular automaton is an array of binary
values. We use a complex rule (rule 30) for state transitions which
creates new random numbers from the seed value. Rule 30 is known to
produce randomness. It is of special interest because it is chaotic and
is used as the random number generator for large integers in
Mathematics. (4)
Once we have that seed, we produce random numbers through the state
transitions of the cellular automaton. Our cellular automaton has 256
bits. We take the additional step of randomly selecting one (1) bit from
each of the successive 255 rows (states) to produce absolute random
numbers, hence a randomly distributed deck of cards.
Our random number generator passed two (2) standard tests: the
Diehard(5) and the ENT (6) tests. More importantly, our code has been
inspected and certified by an independent testing lab specializing in
the analysis, review, and certification of software for gaming and
cryptology
Shuffling
How the deck is shuffled is equally important. We have used an algorithm
(process) that ensures a true randomized shuffle. The process does not
favor any one card or any one position in the deck.
We then assign each card a 256 bit random number. This tremendous number
is greater than 1 with 77 zeros after it. With each card given its own
huge random number, we then sort the deck by those same random numbers,
placing the cards in yet another random sequence. This algorithm
reinforces the theoretical possibility that every conceivable card
sequence is therefore likely to occur.
A note on Collusion
Collusion is when two or more players attempt to bet in a fashion which
allows added gains. Collusion, simply stated, is cheating. The Get21
application was designed to detect collusive behavior. It will
immediately detect collusive patterns and will thoroughly begin to
monitor the various elements involved in the collusion attempt. The
system will generate an incident alert, send the information through the
appropriate channels and Get21’s security staff will effectively halt
the activity within minutes. Get21’s anti-collusion detection system has
proven to be effective against individual cheating. In cases of
collusion, the publics' help can assist us in putting a swift end to
these incidents. If you believe you have been the victim of collusion,
