Why don't the size of gif and jpg show up when using filesize()?

The filesize() function should work with all files, despite their 
content or name. You might want to check that you have the path and/or 
filenames correct.
One other thing to note, the filesize function only works with local 
files.  filesize("http://www.somedomain.com/bob.gif") won't work.
