Stas Kysel, mike gifford,
1. Actually, you don't need gcc to upgrade kernel: http://www.redhat.com/support/docs/howto/kernel-upgrade/kernel-upgrade.html You may need gcc to _recompile_ kernel. But RH kernels have almost everything you might want, so recompiling them is quite rare. 2. gcc RPM is included in the distribution of RedHat. You can grab it at ftp://ftp.redhat.com/ Currently it is located at ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/redhat-6.2-en/os/i386/RedHat/RPMS/egcs-1.1.2-30.i386.rpm It is good idea to check first for updated RPMS at ftp://updates.redhat.com/
