Michael Claßen,
The Rich Site Summary (RSS) format is a widely popular XML vocabulary for describing news channels on the Web, effectively publishing a list of links annotated with title and description. By offering an RSS file a Web site can advertise its content in an always up-to-date fashion and allow other sites to include those links to aggregate useful information on a certain topic. For an example see http://webreference.com/xml/index.rss
