Confusing question, don't know what you mean by "transferent," if you meant "transparent" or "translucent." I can at least answer for transparent, and at least for IE... Just set image_reference.style.visibility = "hidden" or "visible" I don't have NS, or I'd try it out for you there too. If you want to look into translucency... I don't know.
