To assist customers in migrating the EMS/NMS/SMS solution from
Catalant
2.0 (or 2.1.x) to Catalant 2.2, TCSI has developed a migration guide.
Please contact TCSI directly for this document.
One of the sections is discussing the migration of Orbix to Orbacus.
The biggest platform change is the move from Orbix to Orbacus. The
time
estimates required to port Orbix to Orbacus is provided below. Please
keep in mind this estimation is a 'best effort'.
The porting time is totally depends on:
 - how familiar the people doing the work with CORBA;
 - how familiar they are with Catalant
 - how familiar they are with their application
 - how much they use CORBA services directly in their application
(as opposed to OSP) - especially if they have non-Catalant CORBA
   interfaces.
Porting time estimation:
1) Time to port Orbix to Orbacus for Catalant related components.
The answer is about 2-3 person weeks.
2) Time to port Orbix to Orbacus for non-Catanat CORBA applications.
The answer is about 2-3 person months.
The good news is most of the Orbix usages of Catalant have been
encapsulated and hidden from the developer. Some modifications have to
be done, but we expected with minimum efforts.
The webpage www.orbacus.com is a good site to review the Orbacus
product.
There have been some comparision works done between Orbix and Orbacus.
A
web site that has this information is:
