Does djbdns come with man pages?
Aug 5th, 2002 06:43
Brian Coogan,
djbdns does not presently come with man pages in the package from the
author, but Gerrit Pape translates the supplied web documentation into
man pages and they are available from:
http://innominate.org/~pape/djb/
Gerrit tracks the latest released version of djbdns. On Debian Linux
the manpages can be set up in apt for easy update. They have to be
manually installed on other Unix versions. (Gerrit also makes Debian
djbdns binaries available at
http://innominate.org/~pape/Debian/djbdns.html)
The background to this: Dan Bernstein distributes documentation only
in html form. This seems partly because he believes documentation is
best kept on the web, where the latest copy can always be available
and up-to-date, and partly because he prefers html as a format. This
means that if you're struggling with something, especially if the
feature is new, you'd be wise to check the online documentation as
well as the manpages to see if anything has been added.
Dan makes the html-style documentation available via:
http://cr.yp.to/djbdns/doc.tar.gz
Dan has a slashdoc script that can be used to view this documentation
online:
http://cr.yp.to/slashdoc.html
Dan's notes on installing the documentation are at:
